Despite their small relative size, bench scales typically have capacities of up to 1,000 pounds, making them ideal for use in industries including food production, chemical processing, manufacturing, warehousing, and recycling.
Floor scales are low-profile weighing devices typically used in demanding industrial environments due to their strength, reliability, and accuracy. Floor scales see widespread usage in the food, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, and transportation industries.
Floor scales, as their name suggests, are installed on the floor of manufacturing or distribution facilities, allowing items to be placed on top of them with ease. This type of scale is especially useful for measuring pallets and packages delivered from vehicles such as forklifts. Since these scales are placed on the floor, they are durable enough to withstand the daily roll-on and roll-off of bulky and cumbersome goods.
Checkweighing scales are used to quickly determine if the weight of an object is within prescribed limits. These scales are used in weighing operations where an operator needs to manually fill, monitor, and control the amount of product being distributed. Some checkweighing devices may also activate a buzzer or alarm when the target weight is met.
Checkweighing ensures that customers receive the exact amount of product specified. The operator of the checkweigher is free to add or remove product as required to achieve the desired weight. As such, these weighing devices are an ideal solution for the food production industry where the portioning of goods in individual containers or packages is essential.
A wide variety of applications use in-motion weighing devices for anything from weighing items during food production to recording axle and gross vehicle weights. The distinctive feature of in-motion weighing devices is their ability to measure items that are in motion (in contrast to static weighing devices where objects must be stationary).
These weighing solutions—also referred to as dynamic weighing solutions—are ideal for obtaining the weights of items on fast-moving assembly lines or conveyor belts. Crane scales measure the weight of hanging loads. This is typically needed in industrial applications where the loads under concern are too heavy to be manually placed on top of a weighing device. Crane scales vary in form and configuration; however, they all operate on the same basic principles.
These scales usually feature a hook and shackle attached to a lifting device. During weighing operations, a hoist lowers the hook to the level of the object to be weighed. An operator then clamps the item to the hook, and the load is lifted to a specified height. Gravity imposes a tensile force on the hoist which is used to determine the weight of the object. Crane scales are commonly used in the heavy construction, transportation, and aerospace industries.
Heavy Capacity Solutions (Truck Scales)
Heavy capacity solutions, as their name implies, are used to measure cumbersome weights – usually trucks and other heavy vehicles or equipment. These solutions can be either dynamic or static. They are ideal for wheel and axle inspections or determining the weight of an entire rig.
At Garber Metrology, we maintain and operate three heavy capacity test trucks, each equipped with twenty 1000-pound weights, and a certified weight cart with an additional 5,000 pounds.
